The Apostle Paul’s letters are the earliest existing writings by Christians. Their interpretation—concerning salvation, baptism, the roles of women, authority in the church, and Christian behavior, for example—has always been important for the church and for societies. In this class we will take a careful look at some of Paul’s letters, how they have been misinterpreted, and how they are most reasonably interpreted in light of current historical understandings of Paul, Paul’s theology, and ancient letter writing.
